Overview
The Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship supports international students in seven categories: research students, teacher training, undergraduate, Japanese studies, college of technology, specialized training college and the Young Leaders Program.
There are two routes: embassy recommendation, where a Japanese embassy or consulate recruits and screens candidates, and university recommendation, where a Japanese university nominates students from partner institutions.
Application timing depends on the route and your country — check your local Japanese embassy’s announcement.
