Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions students ask us most — about our labels, eligibility, documents, funding, accounts and staying safe from scholarship scams. Search or pick a topic.

Getting started

What is ScholarsChapter?

A free directory of scholarships and academic opportunities — undergraduate, master's, PhD, postdoc, MBBS, internships, research stays, grants and courses. Every listing links to the provider's own website and shows who can apply, what it funds and its current status.

Is ScholarsChapter free?

Yes. Searching, saving, the eligibility check, deadline reminders and weekly alerts are free. Some optional one-to-one services (for example SOP review) may be paid — the free profile review always comes first, and we tell you honestly if you don't need paid help.

Do you award scholarships?

No. We list opportunities run by universities, governments and foundations. The provider alone decides who is selected. You always apply on the provider's official website.

Where should I start?

Use the Quick eligibility check, or create a free account and fill in your profile. Then every listing shows whether you appear to meet its stated requirements, and you can save opportunities to your dashboard.

Listings & labels

What does "Info verified" mean?

An editor checked the listing against the provider's official page on the date shown, using our editorial checklist. It is about the accuracy of the information — it does not mean applications are open today.

What is the difference between "Open now", "Upcoming" and "Next deadline not announced"?

Open now: a confirmed deadline in the future. Upcoming: the call is announced but opens later. Next deadline not announced: a program that runs every year, but this year's dates are not published yet. Closed: the deadline has passed.

What does "Not separately covered" mean in the funding box?

The provider does not pay for that item on top of the main award — for example, accommodation that you pay from your monthly stipend. "Not stated" means the official page does not say; check with the provider.

I found a mistake in a listing. What should I do?

Use "Report incorrect information" at the bottom of the listing. We check it against the official source and correct it, usually within a few days.

Why do some listings show "Typical documents"?

When we have not yet recorded the exact document list for that opportunity, we show the documents usually asked for in that type of application. The official page always has the final list.

Eligibility & matching

How does the eligibility check work?

We compare your profile — nationality, qualification, grades, English test, age and experience — with the requirements recorded from the official page. You see "Meets the stated requirements", "Check these requirements" or "Does not meet", always with the reason.

Why does it say "Check these requirements" even though I seem to qualify?

Some rules cannot be checked automatically — for example a required field of study, a letter of acceptance or a country list that changes every year. We list exactly what you need to confirm yourself.

I am in my final year. Can I apply?

Many master's and PhD scholarships accept final-year students if you graduate before the program starts. Tick "I am in the final year" in your profile; listings that accept final-year applicants will take it into account.

How do grade requirements work with Pakistani CGPA?

Most providers state a minimum such as a UK 2:1 or a percentage. Conversion rules differ by university, so we show the stated requirement and ask you to check how your CGPA converts. Never inflate your grades — they are verified.

Applying & documents

When should I start preparing?

Nine to twelve months before the intake for most master's and PhD scholarships. Many deadlines fall between October and February for programs starting the next autumn.

Which documents are needed for most scholarships?

Usually a passport, transcripts and degree certificates, a CV, a statement of purpose or study plan, two recommendation letters and an English test score or waiver. PhD applications often add a research proposal.

Do I need IELTS?

It depends on the provider. Some accept an English-medium instruction certificate, some require IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo, and some (such as the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission) do not require a test themselves while your university might. Each listing shows its test rule or says "Not stated".

Can I apply to several scholarships at once?

Yes, and you should. Some programs limit how many you can accept or how many universities you can choose within one program — read each listing's rules.

For Pakistani students

How do I get my degree attested by HEC?

Apply through the HEC online degree attestation system with your original degree and transcripts. Start early — many scholarships, embassies and Chinese universities ask for HEC-attested copies, and processing can take weeks.

What is IBCC equivalence?

The Inter Board Committee of Chambers (IBCC) attests and gives equivalence for Matric/FSc and O/A-level certificates. Undergraduate applicants abroad are often asked for IBCC-attested school certificates.

What is the difference between CSC Type A and Type B?

Type A is the HEC-nominated route for the Chinese Government Scholarship in Pakistan. Type B means applying directly to a Chinese university that holds a CSC quota. Our CSC guide explains both step by step.

Are there scholarships only for Pakistanis?

Yes — for example the Fulbright Degree Program run by USEFP, HEC overseas schemes and country quotas such as the Chinese Government Scholarship through HEC. Our Pakistani pages for undergraduate, master's, PhD and postdoc list every current option.

Money & funding

What does "fully funded" mean?

We call a listing fully funded only when the provider covers tuition and living costs (a stipend or salary). Travel, insurance and housing vary — the funding box shows each item separately.

Is a PhD in Europe a scholarship or a job?

Often a job. In countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden, many PhD candidates are employees with a salary and benefits. Elsewhere PhDs are funded by stipends. The listing type tells you which.

Do I need proof of funds even with a scholarship?

A full scholarship usually replaces proof of funds for the visa, but a partial award may not. Check the embassy rules for your destination — for example Germany's blocked-account requirement.

Account, alerts & reminders

Why should I create an account?

To save opportunities, track each application stage, keep notes and a document checklist, see your eligibility on every listing, and get reminders before deadlines.

How do deadline reminders work?

For every saved opportunity with a confirmed deadline, we email you 7 days and 1 day before (and 14 days if you choose). Reminders stop when you mark the application Submitted or Not applying.

Can I choose which scholarships the weekly email shows?

Yes. When you subscribe on the alerts page, pick what you want, your nationality and the funding you need. Every email has a link to change these preferences.

How do I delete my account?

Go to My Account → Profile → Delete my account. Your profile and saved list are permanently removed.

Services & fees

Do you charge application fees?

Never. Genuine scholarships do not charge "processing" or "seat" fees through third parties either. If someone asks you to pay for a guaranteed scholarship, treat it as a scam.

What is the free profile review?

Send your qualification, grades, nationality and goal on WhatsApp. We reply with the opportunities that fit you, which rules you meet, and your next three steps — free.

Can you guarantee admission or a scholarship?

No one honest can. We help you prepare a stronger application; the provider makes the decision. You submit your application yourself on the official website.

Safety & scams

How can I tell if a scholarship is fake?

Warning signs: an application or processing fee paid to an agent, guaranteed selection, a Gmail or WhatsApp-only contact instead of an official domain, pressure to pay quickly, and no official page you can find yourself. Use our scam checker before you pay or share documents.

Is it safe to share my passport and documents?

Upload documents only on official university or government portals. Do not send passport copies to individuals or groups on social media.
