Overview
Under the Chinese University Program (Type B), designated Chinese universities recruit international students directly and nominate them to the China Scholarship Council. You choose a university, apply to its admission system and register in the CSC system (studyinchina.csc.edu.cn) using “Program Category: Type B” and that university’s agency number.
Each university sets its own programs, quota and deadline — many calls run from December to February for September entry. Not every Type B university offers bachelor’s places; many are master’s and PhD only. For example, Xiamen University’s 2026 Type B call (about 50 places) included Chinese-taught bachelor’s programs and closed on 15 February 2026.
For 2026 and 2027 entry, undergraduate applicants to Chinese Government Scholarship universities must take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA): Mathematics for everyone, Professional Chinese for Chinese-taught programs, and Physics and/or Chemistry for science, engineering, agriculture and medicine.
