About this opportunity
Stockholm University is hiring a PhD student in bioinformatics to build generative AI and representation-learning methods that turn large microscopy and multimodal biological datasets into biological insight. The project sits between artificial intelligence, computational biology and computer vision.
You will join the Computational Microscopy for Cell Biology (CMCB) lab of Assistant Prof. Juliette Griffié at SciLifeLab, Sweden’s national centre for molecular biosciences. The lab works on interpretable AI for cancer and autoimmunity, and on generative and graph neural network methods for biological imaging. The team is mostly physicists, engineers, biochemists and computational scientists.
This is a paid job: a 4-year full-time employment as a PhD student at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, with a fixed monthly salary. Up to 20% of your time may go to teaching or other department duties.
Who can apply
MSc (or equivalent: 240 credits including 60 at master's level) in computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, bioinformatics or a related field. Specific entry requirement: at least 90 credits in chemistry/molecular biology/biotechnology or in computer science/mathematics/physics, plus 60 master's-level credits in life science, computer science, mathematics, physics or bioinformatics, including a 30-credit thesis. Solid machine learning and deep learning experience (ideally computer vision) and proven scientific programming (GitHub or papers). Generative AI or interpretable ML experience is a plus. Requirements must be met by the time you are admitted.
