- ETH Zurich Student Summer Research Fellowship (computer science) — application window opens in early November and closes in mid-December. CHF 4,000 plus travel.
- EPFL Life Sciences Summer Research Program — 15 November.
- Summer@EPFL (computer and communication sciences) — 29 November.
December 2026 – February 2027
- CERN Summer Student Programme and DESY Summer Students — calls usually open around the turn of the year.
- UTRIP at the University of Tokyo — deadline usually in early January.
- ISTernship, Austria — call usually closes mid-February.
March 2027
- Caltech SURF — applications open 1 November and close 1 March. You need a Caltech mentor first, so start emailing in November.
- Westlake University summer research (China) — applications usually February–March.
How to stand out
- Name specific labs and recent papers in your motivation letter.
- Keep a one-page academic CV with your best project at the top.
- Ask a professor who has seen your work for a reference early.
