Overview
The Research Grants Council (RGC) runs the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme for outstanding students starting a PhD at one of Hong Kong’s UGC-funded universities. You submit an initial application on the RGC portal and a full application to your chosen university.
2027/28 intake: RGC initial application deadline 1 December 2026 (12:00 noon HKT); university deadlines are the same day or earlier (e.g. PolyU 1 December 2026, 23:59).

Funding package
HK$344,400 per year
Annual stipend HK$344,400 (about HK$28,700/month) and annual conference and research-related travel allowance HK$14,400, for up to 3 years. Many universities also waive tuition for awardees.
