Overview
The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) runs a 5-year, English-taught interdisciplinary PhD in science. Every student receives a research assistantship that starts at ¥2.6 million a year and rises to ¥3.6 million, covering tuition (¥540,000), plus conference travel support, student-rate campus housing and family support.
