Overview
The Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) funds talented researchers for a PhD at a university in the Flemish Community of Belgium (KU Leuven, Ghent, Antwerp, VUB, Hasselt). You apply together with your promotor (supervisor) at the Flemish university. There is no nationality requirement.
2027 call: opens 3 December 2026 and closes 1 March 2027, 5 pm CET. Your master’s must be awarded no more than two years before 1 March 2027.
Who can apply
Any nationality. A master's (or equivalent) by the start of the fellowship, awarded no more than two years before 1 March 2027; non-EEA degrees need a NARIC-Vlaanderen attestation or university declaration. Promotor at a Flemish university.
