How We Verify Listings

ScholarsChapter is only useful if you can trust it. This page explains how listings are checked, what the labels mean and how to tell us when something is wrong.

Where listings come from

Every listing links to the official page of the university, funder, government or organization that runs the opportunity. We do not list opportunities that charge an application fee to ScholarsChapter, and we never process applications ourselves.

What the labels mean

  • Verified — an editor checked the deadline, funding and eligibility against the official source on the “last checked” date shown on the listing.
  • Needs verification — the listing points to the official program, but one or more details could not be confirmed. Leave nothing to chance: read the official page.
  • Open call — a specific call with a confirmed deadline.
  • Recurring program — a program that runs regularly. The next call may not be announced yet, so dates can change.
  • Closed — the deadline has passed. Closed listings are hidden from search unless you choose to include them.

How the eligibility check works

When you add your profile, each listing compares it with the requirements an editor recorded from the official page: nationality, required qualification, minimum grade, English test, age, years since PhD and experience. You see one of three results, always with the reasons:

  • Meets the stated requirements — every recorded mandatory rule matches your profile and the editor confirmed the full rule list was entered.
  • Needs verification — something is unclear or not recorded, for example a grade conversion, a country list or a condition you must confirm yourself.
  • Does not meet a requirement — the official rules exclude your profile on at least one point.

Preferences and research fit are shown separately and are never used to rule you out. The check is guidance, not a decision: it never guarantees that you qualify or will receive funding. Only the provider decides.

Keeping listings fresh

Deadlines are rechecked regularly. Listings whose last check is older than six months are flagged so you know to look twice. When we cannot confirm a detail, we leave it empty rather than guess.
